What we eat matters.
Bread Alone’s purpose is to serve honest food, create prosperity for our people, and minimize harm to the planet.
Sourdough for all
Bread Alone strives to make our organic sourdough breads available to all. Too much bread these days is made in a rush and is packed with mold inhibitors, which taste bad and make you feel even worse. Our long fermentation sourdough breads are nourishing, taste great, are good for the gut!
Protecting planet earth
The climate crisis is the greatest challenge of our time. We support good-for-the-earth farming practices, reduce our carbon footprint through solar power and electrification, and use offsets to offer you the only carbon-neutral bread in the United States. For good measure, we donate 1% of sales to environmental non-profits, and in 2022 built a fully electrified, fossil-fuel-free bakery in the Catskills!
We believe that organic is the right choice for our health and our planet. We have been certified organic since 2002, the first year of the USDA organic standard, and baked with organic grain long before.
We measure our carbon footprint, reduce what we can, and offset the rest. We have been proudly certified since 2020.
We donate 1% of all bread sales to environmental non-profits. We have been proud members since 2018.
We generate a portion of our energy needs from more than 600kW of company-owned solar power. We are committed to sourcing 100% of our energy from renewable resources by 2030.
Old school organic
We have been baking with organic grains from the very first loaf in 1983, doing the right thing for the health of our customers, farm workers, and planet earth before it was a certification. Our organic and often regenerative wheat flour is grown by regional farmers and milled in the Northeast. Bread Alone is proud to be among the longest continually certified organic brands in the country. We have been a part of the USDA organic program since its inception in 2002.
Creating Prosperity
We believe that income inequality in our country is shameful, that racial injustice is real, and that they both surround us every day. We provide economic security for our employees through our commitment to a living wage, and by sharing business profits with all. We are consciously building a team, top to bottom, that accurately reflects the diversity of our community. Through these actions, we intentionally open up opportunities for the historically disadvantaged, combat a legacy of social and racial injustice, and create equity.
